  • I AM going to let youu in on a secret, a lot of dermatologists don't like heavy rich face creams, in fact they prefer lightweight serums and lotions which is why for years I have avoided traditional old school skincare. But I am falling back in love with moisturisers (and no it's not because my skin has changed or become dryer as I have gotten older). I think it's because moisturisers are becoming lighter, more effective and some are loaded with actives that mean that they offer everything that a serum offers and yet still hydrate and soothe.

    Next week I am looking at hydrating serums for warmer weather.

    Here are just some of the moisturisers that I have recently fallen for.
    * Cerave Moisturising Lotion - if you're on a budget it's hard to beat -
    * Your Good Skin Cicarepair Sleep Paste -
    * Your Good Skin Balancing Skin Concentrate -
    * La Roche Posay Toleriane - there are three in the range
    The Moisturiser -
    The Fluide -
    And the Overnight -
    * Spectacle -
    in the US try - but be warned it is a new site under construction
    * Dr Sam Bunting's Flawless Moisturiser -
    * Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance -,en_GB,pd.html

            Good morning Nadine ; I just came over to your channel from watching Trinny videos . I will soon be 56 and suffered with acne and oily skin most of my life . I am currently looking to take charge of my skin . I have grown up in the era where we used the 3 step plan and heavy duty toners like Sea Breeze . I will soon be shopping for a gentle cleanser , a good vitamin C serum and a good retinol product . I do use a sunscreen everyday and will soon be ordering Trinny's products . have a great day .

              What would you recommend for combination skin that’s sensitive and prone to allergies? I have very oily forehead and dry cheeks.

                                Márcia Marques It’s because there is no such thing as serum. Serum is just a marketing word that was invented by companies to sell more products. A serum is just a lightweight moisturizer in most cases since they include silicones that act as wonderful occlusives. And during daytime your sunscreen will act as a moisturizer of course.

                                Moisturizers cannot penetrate skin, therefore they don't provide moisture. They *prevent* water loss. That is *all* Here is a well known dermatologist Dr. Davin Lim explaining what moisturizers actually do

                                        Hi Nadine! Further to not needing a traditional "moisturizer", you can find so many foundations on the market today that have skin care ingredients already in them, so putting them on top of a moisturizer is redundant. I find brands like IT Cosmetics (which I know you love), Tarte, Milk Makeup, and now even Clinique's new foundation, have significant moisturizing properties. I find I need only a light serum to start during the day (I love Beauty Pie's Uber Youth), and then foundation. We're around the same age, but my skin is on the drier side. I do so love all the technology going into today's skin care, as well as your videos. :-)

                                                                        Ah I thought 8 was weird for not liking or using moisturiser.... They always make my makeup sit wrong, and half of them have silicone which makes me greasy. Love vitamin c stuff though and very interested in the Boots stuff. Will admit scent is a big factor in my choices. Unscented isn't for me
